Now that a successor(s) has been chosen for the farm, it’s time for the owner and successor to sit down together and set the short- and long-term goals for the farm. There’s a very good reason that this should be a joint effort.
Setting realistic, effective and smart goals for the farm needs two perspectives. The existing owner brings experience, technical expertise and a memory to the table. But a successor brings new ideas, optimism, a different set of skills and new energy to the discussion. If the owner and successor work together, the goals are more likely to be realistic, innovative, and motivating for everyone.
Set up a meeting between the owner and successor(s) to start working on setting farm goals.
I’ve got the meeting scheduled. I’m ready to find out what we need to do at that meeting.
