Now that your successor(s) has been chosen for the farm, it’s time for the current owner(s) and successor(s) to sit down together and set the short, medium, and long-term goals for the farm. This needs to be a joint effort.

Setting realistic, effective and smart goals for the farm needs two perspectives. The current owner(s) brings experience and technical expertise to the table. The successor(s) brings new ideas, optimism, a different set of skills and new energy to the discussion. If the current owner(s) and future owner(s) work together, the goals are more likely to be motivating for everyone.
